Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks

Ice skating in the Sioux Falls park system during the winter months offers a traditional, weather-dependent experience at several outdoor rinks, along with a newer, more consistent option at the refrigerated skate ribbon at Jacobson Plaza.

Where to Go

Sioux Falls has two outdoor ice rinks, Memorial Park and Tuthill Park, which operate during the colder months and are weather-dependent. Featuring warming houses and free skate checkout, these parks provide a great opportunity to get out and try your skills.

This year, we are happy to introduce the skate ribbon at Jacobson Plaza! A 14,000 square foot refrigerated ice surface with ambient lighting, music, and firepits.

What to Know

  • Tuthill Park and Memorial Park ice is dependent on the weather conditions. Please check ahead for ice availability.
  • Ice rinks will have open warming houses with limited ice-skate checkout at Memorial Park and Tuthill Park. Skate check-out is free, or you can bring your own.
  • Rinks are for skating only.
  • Roughhousing is not allowed.
  • No smoking in the warming house, nor on the ice rink.
  • Hockey will be allowed at Memorial Park, where it must be played within the designated rink. Hockey at Tuthill will depend on the number of recreational skaters. Hockey is not allowed at Jacobson Plaza.
  • No dogs are allowed on the ice.
  • Warming houses at Memorial and Tuhill Parks will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. Holiday Hours and Jacobson Plaza may vary.

Parents of small children should be especially aware of weather conditions and warming house hours before leaving children at the outdoor rinks when weather conditions are extreme. Children ages 6 and under must be accompanied by someone 16 years of age or older.
