Providing care for 12 or more
Daycare Center:
A facility used for providing daycare to more than 12 children or adults and is limited by the square footage of useable space available. The ratio is 35 square feet per person indoors, while outdoors, it is 50 square feet per person.
Care givers planning to start daycare center are required to register with, and meet all requirements set forth by the State of South Dakota.
Health Department – No registrations or permits are required for this type of daycare.
Zoning Department – A daycare center is allowed to operate in appropriately zoned areas within the city and may be required to seek a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) when the zoning standards cannot be met.
Building Services Department – A daycare center will be reviewed for structure, safety and egress compliance upon submittal of a permit request to build a new facility or remodel an existing space.
