Video License Placement Process

In November of 2022, the City Council approved an ordinance to allow the City to conduct a drawing for video lottery placements, which are based on the most recent census information available per South Dakota Codified Law.

In order to determine who may apply for an opportunity to bid, the City of Sioux Falls adopted a lottery drawing process in order to select potential video lottery placement applications. See the Sioux Falls City Ordinance Section 111.032 through 111.033.

General Information About Applying

What is the fee for submitting a video lottery placement drawing application and what methods of payment are accepted?

The nonrefundable lottery drawing application fee is $100. The payment must be made payable to City of Sioux Falls and be submitted at the time you submit your lottery drawing application.

The City will accept cash, check or card and funds will be deposited into the City’s bank account within one to two business days of receipt.

Can I mail my video lottery placement drawing application?

No, it must be submitted in person.

Can I submit more than one video lottery placement drawing application for the same business address?

No, the City can only accept one lottery placement drawing application per business address.

I own a strip mall with seven different suites with separate addresses, but they all have the same legal description. Can I submit a video lottery placement drawing application for each suite?

Yes, you may submit a video lottery placement drawing application for each separate address that currently exists.

Where can I obtain my accurate legal description?

You can contact the Register of Deeds office for your appropriate county.

The video lottery placement drawing application asks for a “Primary Contact Name.” Can you be more specific?

The primary contact is defined as the person who can address questions or issues related to your lottery application.

Are there any reasons why my video lottery placement drawing application may be rejected?
