Get a sidewalk permit

Does your sidewalk needed to be repaired? A permit must be granted before work can start on any residential or commercial property.

Permit applications can be filed online through the City of Sioux Falls’ Customer Self Service tool, or in-person at City Center during regular business hours.

Online

  1. Register for an account

    A Customer Self Service account is required to file a permit online. Visit css.siouxfalls.gov to register.

    Note: It may take up to 24-48 hours for review before the account is active.

  2. Prepare before you apply

    For information about typical sidewalk repairs, please review Common Sidewalk Defects and Acceptable Repairs.
  3. Collect information

    The following information is need to complete an application:
    1. Sidewalk feet (in square footage)
    2. Sidewalk construction type (e.g. New, Replace, Grinding, Mudjacking)
    3. Will an ADA ramp need to be replaced or installed?
  4. File an application

    Use CSS to file an application for a Right of Way Sidewalk/Driveway Approach permit.

  5. Review process

    City staff will review your application and contact you with any questions. A staff member may ask you to make corrections to your application, check the CSS Dashboard for any updates and notes.

  6. Final steps

    A permit will be filed after an application is approved, and work can begin on the permitted project.

    The following information is need to complete an application:
    1. Sidewalk feet (in square footage)
    2. Sidewalk construction type (e.g. New, Replace, Grinding, Mudjacking)
    3. Will an ADA ramp need to be replaced or installed?
  3. File an application

    Visit the City Center front counter, 231 N. Dakota Ave., during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday–Friday) and talk with one of our permitting staff.

  4. Review process

    City staff will review your application and contact you with any questions. A staff member may ask you to make corrections to your application, which must be made before a permit can be issued.
