Mosquito Control
The Sioux Falls Mosquito Control Program operates with dedicated crews working around the clock to protect public health by reducing mosquito populations and lowering the risk of mosquito-borne illnesses like West Nile virus.
South Dakota has historically had one of the highest per capita rates of West Nile virus in the nation, making this work especially important. The city is divided into 20 spray zones, each monitored with strategically placed mosquito traps. Our crews check these traps daily and inspects standing water sources for mosquito larvae treating them on the spot when found to prevent mosquitoes from reaching adulthood.
