Sioux Falls Fire Rescue Launches Smoke Alarm Donation Program
Published on December 06, 2024
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue (SFFR) has partnered with Nyberg’s Ace to bring lifesaving smoke alarms to households in need across the Sioux Falls area. Through this innovative program, residents can purchase smoke alarms at local stores on behalf of SFFR, which will be installed in homes that need them.
Participating Nyberg’s Ace locations offer two types of alarms for purchase:
There are no restrictions on the number of alarms customers can donate. Once purchased, the alarms will be delivered directly to SFFR for installation throughout the community. The program will run year-round, making it easy for residents to contribute anytime.
“Having working smoke alarms in every home is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of injury, death, and property damage caused by fires,” said Fire Inspector Brandon Fey. “This program helps us protect the community and empowers residents to directly impact their neighbors’ safety.”
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), working smoke alarms reduce the risk of dying in a home fire by 55 percent. However, three out of every five home fire deaths occur in properties without working smoke alarms or any alarms at all.
“We’re grateful to Nyberg’s Ace for partnering with us to make this initiative possible,” Fey continued. “Together, we can ensure that every home in Sioux Falls is equipped with these essential tools for fire safety.”
This initiative aligns with SFFR’s mission to promote fire safety and education while reducing the risks of preventable tragedies in the community.
