Mayor TenHaken Outlines Staff Transition

Published on March 31, 2025

Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken announced Monday his Chief of Staff, Erica Beck, will transition out of her role this summer.

“I’m so grateful for Erica’s commitment to my administration and dedicated service to our community,” said Mayor TenHaken. “When I asked her to serve as my Chief of Staff, we had no idea the events we would encounter together. Sioux Falls does not realize how lucky they’ve been to have this incredible woman helping to guide our city for the past seven years. She’s been an amazing ally and friend to me and to our community, and I can’t thank her enough for all she has done for Sioux Falls.”

Beck started in her role in June of 2018, shortly after Mayor TenHaken was sworn into office. During her time in this administration, she has been able to work closely with leaders across all City departments and guide strategic execution of the City’s initiatives within the One Sioux Falls framework and keep Sioux Falls investible.

“Since returning to the City from the private sector in 2018, I’ve known my time in this role was finite. For the past seven years, I have focused on investing my time to the demands and opportunities of serving our team and Sioux Falls. It is now time that I focus my attention on the next chapter,” said Beck. “While I am looking forward to weighing what’s next professionally, I am also excited to devote time to our growing family, including the arrival of our second granddaughter this summer. I am beyond honored to have served in this capacity for the past seven years, and I’m proud that we’ve kept Sioux Falls investible well into the future with the principled leadership and foundational investments made.”

Prior to stepping into the role of Chief of Staff, Beck worked for Lloyd Companies as vice president of development. Serving as Chief of Staff signaled a return to the City for her as she previously worked eight years with the City of Sioux Falls as an urban planner, senior planner, and economic development manager. In 2018, she was the inaugural winner of the Steve Metli Vision Award from Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc.

Beck will transition out of her role the end of June, allowing for a successful transition. During this time, Mayor TenHaken will determine, based on the needs of his administration, if the position will be backfilled.
