Prescribed Burn Planned for Yankton Trail and Farm Field Parks

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue (SFFR) crews will conduct two prescribed burns in Yankton Trail Park (3901 South Minnesota Avenue) and Farm Field Park (4401 South Western Avenue) on Tuesday, April 8.

Prescribed fires help clear noxious weeds and promote native prairie restoration. SFFR crews will be on-site to manage the burn, monitor smoke, and ensure the fire is fully extinguished. Crews will conduct a prescribed burn in the southwestern corner of Yankton Trail Park and on the west side of Farm Field Park. The prescribed burns are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will be complete by 5 p.m. The parks and recreation trail will remain open during the burns.

Prescribed fires are carefully performed under approved conditions. Humidity, fuel moisture, wind speed and direction, and short- and long-range weather patterns are all considered in establishing the right conditions for a prescribed fire.
