Street Construction Updates & Closures

Lane Closure – Minnesota Avenue
Beginning on Monday, April 21, 2025, the outside southbound lane on South Minnesota Avenue between West 39th Street and the Yankton Park Trail Entrance will be closed; the closure will be approximately two blocks at a time, as work progresses.
TelCom Construction will be potholing a utility. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the week.
Drivers are urged to use caution and reduced speeds while travelling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.
Lane Closures – Minnesota Avenue
Beginning on Monday, April 21, 2025, the northbound outside lane on South Minnesota Avenue will be closed at West 14th Street. Continuing Tuesday, April 22, 2025, the westbound outside lane on West 14th Street will be closed at South Minnesota Avenue.
High Rise Solutions will be washing windows for Premier Bank. This work is anticipated to be complete by Wednesday, April 23.

Lane Closures – 10th Street and 11th Street
Beginning at noon on Monday, April 21, 2025, the parking lane along West 10th Street and West 11th Street will be closed for sanitary work in the alley located between South Phillips Avenue and South Main Avenue.
Then, beginning Monday evening, West 10th Street and West 11th Street will be reduced to one lane between South Phillips Avenue and South Main Avenue for sanitary sewer work.
This work is anticipated to be completed overnight, traffic control will be removed by noon on Tuesday.

Street Closure – Spring Avenue
Beginning on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, South Spring Avenue will be closed between 11th Street and 12th Street.
Runge Construction will be performing watermain work. This work is expected to be completed in one week.

Lane Closure – Cliff Avenue
Beginning on Monday, April 21, 2025, the southbound lanes of South Cliff Avenue will be closed between the Big Sioux River bridge and Tomar Road to allow crews to perform concrete joint repairs, partial depth concrete repairs, and curb & gutter repairs.
One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained in the northbound lanes. In the upcoming weeks, the location of the lane closures on Cliff Avenue will vary between the Big Sioux River bridge and Tomar Road. At a minimum, one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times. Access to businesses, parks and homes will be maintained. Access to side streets will be maintained if possible.
This work is anticipated to be complete by mid-August 2025.

Parking Lane & Sidewalk Closure – 12th Street & Spring Avenue
Beginning on Monday April 21, 2025, the westbound parking lane on West 12th Street will be closed west of South Spring Avenue. The southbound parking lane on South Spring Avenue will be closed north of West 12th Street. The sidewalk on the north side of 12th Street will also be closed, west of Spring Avenue. The sidewalk on the west side of Spring Avenue, north of 12th Street, will be closed as well.
The parking lane and sidewalk directly adjacent to 516 West 12th Street will be closed.
Blackwing Builders will be constructing an addition. The work is anticipated to be finished in approximately 14 months.

Street Closure – Sycamore Avenue
Beginning on Friday, April 25, 2025, Sycamore Avenue will be closed from 69th Street to 85th Street to allow crews to begin construction on South Veterans Parkway. A signed detour will direct traffic to Cliff Avenue and SD Highway 11. Sycamore Avenue will remain closed until project completion, which is expected in late 2026.
South Veterans Parkway is a joint project between the City of Sioux Falls and the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT). This work is part of construction of the second segment of South Veterans Parkway from Cliff Avenue to Sycamore Avenue. Construction on this section of new road began in March 2025 and will continue through 2026. Construction of the southern portion of Veterans Parkway will occur in segments, with each segment taking about two years to complete.

About South Veterans Parkway
South Veterans Parkway is the remaining 8.7 miles of Veterans Parkway that will connect Interstate 29 to Interstate 90. In 2020, the northern segment of Veterans Parkway opened to traffic and the South Dakota Transportation Commission agreed to complete construction of South Veterans Parkway to accommodate regional and future growth and development. Construction will begin in summer 2023 and will occur in segments, with each segment taking about two years to complete. The project is anticipated to be fully completed in 2027.
