Mayor Paul TenHaken has announced the appointment of Alysia Boysen as the next Director of Siouxland Libraries, alongside an endorsement from the Library Board of Trustees. “Alysia has a strong history with Siouxland Libraries, starting her career with the department 20 years ago,” said Mayor TenHaken. “She brings a wealth of experience as our next leader and will continuously look at ways to improve and innovate the way we deliver services to the region.”
Boysen began her career with Siouxland Libraries in 2005 as a part-time employee at the Colton Branch. She then started a full-time role at the Downtown Library in 2006 and progressed into leadership roles as Branch Librarian of the Rural East branches and then Rural West branches. Since 2020, Boysen has served as the Senior Librarian of Technology and Communication.
Boysen’s positions in both City library branches and rural communities provide her with a holistic perspective of the diverse needs across the entire Siouxland Libraries service area. Throughout her tenure, Boysen has been instrumental in implementing innovative library services and programs tailored to the specific communities within Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County. Her achievements include bringing new technologies and databases to Siouxland Libraries that have streamlined circulation and enhanced the user’s experience. Also, she has played a key role in elevating Siouxland Libraries’ communication channels and strengthening its brand.
“I am incredibly honored to step into the role of Director for Siouxland Libraries,” said Boysen. “My love for libraries began as a child at the Madison Public Library. Now, I am excited to continue building on Siouxland Libraries’ legacy of providing exceptional services, diverse collections, and the dedicated people who connect our community with information and ideas.”
A Colton, South Dakota native, Boysen holds a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Southern Mississippi and a bachelor’s degree in computer graphics and multimedia/web development from Dakota State University. She and her husband have four children and reside on their farm near Colton.
Boysen’s appointment follows the retirement of the current director, Jodi Fick, on June 20, 2025. Her appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the City Council and will be presented for approval at the June 3, 2025, City Council meeting.
