Street Construction Updates & Closures

Street Closure – South Main Avenue

Beginning on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, South Main Avenue will be closed between West 11th Street and West 12th Street. 

A crane will be setup and in use for a project at the Washington Pavilion.

This work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on June 6, 2025.

Drivers are urged to use caution and reduced speeds while traveling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.

Street Closure – South First Avenue

Beginning on Monday, June 2, 2025, South First Avenue will be closed on the north side of East 41st Street to allow crews to perform repairs on the concrete valley gutter.

Motorists should utilize East 40th Street to enter and exit the neighborhood.

This work is anticipated to be completed in one week.

Drivers are urged to use caution and reduced speeds while traveling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.

Lane Closure – West 41st Street

Beginning on Monday, June 2, the outside eastbound lane of West 41st Street will be closed between Kiwanis Avenue and Western Avenue to allow crews to complete sidewalk improvements. 

This is the fourth of eight phases of the project, which includes sidewalk improvements on both sides of 41st Street from Western Avenue to Westport Avenue, and on Minnesota Avenue from 11th Street to 18th Street. The entire project is anticipated to be completed by August.

Street Closure – Northview Avenue

Beginning on Monday, June 2, 2025, North Northview Avenue will be closed between West Benson Road and West 54th Street North. Northview traffic will be detoured to Westport Avenue.  

605 Companies is installing new underground utilities.

This work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on June 6, 2025.

Street Closure – La Mesa Drive

Beginning on Monday, June 2, 2025, North La Mesa Drive will be closed between West Madison Street and West Third Street.  La Mesa traffic will be detoured to Marion Road.  

Metro Construction is installing new underground utilities.

This work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on June 6, 2025.

Lane Closure – Tickman Street

Beginning on Monday, June 2, 2025, West Tickman Street will be reduced to a one lane road for a short distance east of North Career Avenue.  Two-way traffic will be maintained with alternating stop control.  

Backhaus Excavating will be installing new underground utilities.

This work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on June 6, 2025.

Sixth Street from Foss Avenue to Veterans Parkway Opening

On May 30, 2025, East Sixth Street from North Foss Avenue to Veterans Parkway will be fully open to traffic.

Daily lane closures may occur to address minor cleanup operations.

Drivers are urged to use caution while traveling when lane closures are present.

Utility Work – Lincoln High School and Horace Mann School Neighborhoods

Beginning on Monday, June 2, 2025 crews will be performing repairs to the sanitary sewer at various locations east of South Cliff Avenue between East 26th Street and East 33rd Street and from Lincoln High School north to East 33rd Street. There will be intermittent short term lane restrictions, short term road closures, and driveway access restrictions as the work progresses. 

The repairs are anticipated to be completed by the end of August 2025.

Roundabout Closure – 85th Street and Heritage Parkway

Beginning on Monday, June 2, 2025, the roundabout at West 85th Street and Heritage Parkway will be closed to traffic to allow crews to finish asphalt at the roundabout. Access will be to local residents only.

During this closure East Madison Street, North Thompson Avenue, and West 85th Street will be used as a detour.

Weather permitting, the roundabout is anticipated to be reopened to traffic in one week.
