Temporary Trail Closures starting July 14 for Seal Coat Application

Published on July 11, 2025

Sections of the Big Sioux Greenway Trail System will undergo temporary closures starting Monday, July 14. Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation will apply a seal coat to parts of the trail in five phases. The work will cause intermittent closures on the trail. Expected closures for each phase are expected to be one to two days.

  • Phase1: Southeastern Avenue spur from 49th Street to the main loop at the Pasley Park Entrance

  • Phase 2: Diamond Creek Spur from Farm Field down to Western Avenue

  • Phase 3: From the main loop near the Country Club to Marian Road

  • Phase 4: Family Park through Legacy Park and Dunham Park to Marian Road

  • Phase 5: Main loop from Madison Street to Russel Street

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation encourages trail users to be careful and slow down while traveling near construction areas or consider an alternate route. Signs and flaggers will be placed along the trail to guide users while work is happening.

This maintenance work is essential for the long-term enjoyment and safety of the trail. The application of a crack seal coat will extend the trail's lifespan and improve the overall riding experience. For more information go to siouxfalls.gov/trails.
