City Opens Branch/Tree Drop Sites for Residential Use

Published on July 29, 2025

Effective immediately, the City of Sioux Falls opened two branch and tree drop off sites for residents to use following last night’s storm. The sites are located at Chambers Street, near the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility (1015 E. Chambers Street), and Lyon Boulevard (200 Lyon Blvd.), south of the W. H. Lyon Fairgrounds near West 12th Street. These are the same locations as the seasonal drop sites. The sites are open now until Sunday, August 17. Daily extended hours will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Sundays though Sunday, August 11. The sites are free for Sioux Falls residents to use. Only trees and branches will be accepted, no root balls or bags of leaves.

The drop sites are for residential use only. Commercial businesses and/or contractors can take fallen branches and trees to the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill and/or Mueller Pallets, located west of the landfill. For additional information on the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill, visit siouxfalls.gov/landfill.

As a reminder for other debris homeowners or property owners may have from the storm, the landfill offers one free annual pass for Sioux Falls residents. One pass per household or commercial property. Visit the landfill webpage for details.

Any downed power lines should be treated as live power lines until they have been cleared by the utility. To report downed power lines, call 911. To report street blockages or other damage, call the police non-emergency line at 605-367-7000 or visit siouxfalls.gov/report.

Important Reminders

  • The City has opened two branch/tree drop sites for residential use only. They are the same locations as the seasonal drop sites and more information is available on the City's website.

  • City crews are out clearing tree/branch debris inside the public right-of-way (area between the sidewalk and street). Crews will only remove debris from fallen trees or branches that were blocking the street or sidewalk. The City will NOT pick up branches/trees stacked by the side of the street or in the right-of-way from private properties. Trees that fall on private property are the responsibility of homeowners to remove and dispose. See the graphic below for more information:

  • Sioux Falls residents receive one free annual landfill pass per household that can be used for other storm debris. Visit siouxfalls.gov/landfill for more information.

  • There are several fences damaged, especially on the west side. Our Planning and Development Services team is available to help guide homeowners/property owners on what types of repair (fence, shingles, siding, etc.) require a permit. Call 605-367-8670 or visit siouxfalls.gov/permits for more information.
