Street Construction Updates & Closures

Lane Closure – 14th Street
Beginning on Monday, August 25, 2025, the outside eastbound lane of West 14th Street will be closed between Dakota Avenue and Phillips Avenue to allow crews to perform accessible curb ramp repairs. Portions of the sidewalk in this area will be closed, and pedestrians will be detoured around the work zone.
Lane closures along 14th Street will progress east as the work moves to the intersections of First Avenue and Second Avenue.
This work is expected to be complete by the end of September.
Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce their speed while traveling near the construction area, and may want to consider alternate routes.
Street Closure – 267th Street
Beginning on Monday, August 25, 2025, Minnehaha County Highway 148/267th Street will be closed between 463rd Avenue and 465th Avenue to allow construction crews to begin installing a turn lane at the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill entrance. A detour will be set up directing traffic to SD Highway 42/265th Street. The landfill will need to be accessed from the west via the traffic detour.
Weather permitting, the closure is expected to extend into October.

Utility Work – Horace Mann Area
Beginning on Monday, August 25, 2025, crews will be performing repairs to the storm sewer at various locations east of South Cliff Avenue between East 28th Street and East 32nd Street. There will be intermittent short-term lane restrictions and short-term road closures as the work progresses.
The repairs are anticipated to be completed by the end of October 2025.

Lane Closures - Veterans Parkway and Rice Street
Beginning on Monday, August 25, 2025, work will begin to bore a sanitary sewer pipe beneath Veterans Parkway, just south of Rice Street. During this time, the northbound right-turn lane on Veterans Parkway (south of Rice Street) will be closed. In addition, beginning just north of Rice Street, Veterans Parkway will be reduced to two southbound lanes. The eastbound right-turn lane on Rice Street, west of Veterans Parkway, will be closed.
Weather permitting, pipe installation under Veterans Parkway is anticipated to be completed within 3 weeks.
Trail users are urged to avoid this area completely while construction is underway. Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce speeds while traveling near the construction area, and may want to consider alternate routes.
Street Closure – Garfield Avenue
Beginning immediately, Friday, August 22, 2025, North Garfield Avenue will be closed between Bailey Street and Rice Street.
Hodkinson Construction will be performing utility work. This work is anticipated to be completed by Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

Street Closure – South Gordon Drive
Beginning on Monday, August 25, 2025, South Gordon Drive will be closed between East Arrowhead Parkway and East 15th Street. Traffic will be detoured onto South Hillview Rd.
Rice Companies will be pouring new curb and gutter as well as resurfacing the roadway.
This work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on August 29, 2025.

Lane Closure – South Minnesota Ave.
Beginning at 6:00 AM on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the outside northbound lane of South Minnesota Avenue will be closed between West 29th Street and West 28th Street. Northbound traffic will be limited to one lane.
Pride Neon Sign Solutions will be installing a new sign.
This work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025.

Lane Closure – Marion Road
Beginning at 8:30 AM on Monday, August 25, 2025, the northbound outside lane on Marion Road will be closed from West 26th Street to West 25th Street. Northbound traffic will be limited to one lane.
Dave’s Construction will be replacing the concrete for the lane.
This work is expected to be completed by Friday, August 29, 2025.
