The City of Sioux Falls’ Planning and Development Services Department is inviting residents to help shape the future of arts and culture in Sioux Falls through the development of a comprehensive Arts and Cultural Plan. This community-driven initiative aims to guide the community’s arts and cultural priorities over the next decade.

The goals of this planning effort are to:

  • Assess the current arts and cultural landscape of Sioux Falls.

  • Identify challenges and opportunities to strengthen the local arts community.

  • Recommend policies, programs, and investments.

  • Develop a shared vision and strategic goals for the next 10 years.

  • Provide a framework for implementing the plan.

“Sioux Falls has a dynamic arts and cultural system with strong roots that inspire and unite people,” said Maren Engel, Arts Coordinator for the City of Sioux Falls. “Now is the time to build upon that foundation and create a shared vision for the future of arts and cultural life in Sioux Falls. While arts and cultural plans are not new to Sioux Falls, this is the first time the City is leading this effort, and we are optimistic we can be a central resource for this work moving forward.”

Residents are encouraged to participate in the planning process in the following ways:

  • Community Input Session
    Orpheum Theater
    Tuesday, October 14, 2025
    315 North Phillips Avenue
    6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Attendees will have the opportunity to share ideas, participate in family-friendly activities, and learn more about the planning process.

  • Feedback by phone, email, or online:

Residents may also share their input by calling the study hotline at (602) 767-7067, emailing the study team at siouxfallsartsandculturalplan@keenindependent.com, or completing an online survey at siouxfalls.gov/arts-plan, which will be available following the community input session on October 14.

Community and stakeholder engagement will continue through December 2025. During the first quarter of 2026, the planning team will develop a vision and strategic plan with recommendations and an action plan for implementation. Once complete, the final Arts and Cultural Plan will be presented to the Sioux Falls Arts Commission for review and, upon approval, forwarded to the Sioux Falls City Council for final adoption.
