City Celebrates New Elmwood Clubhouse and Cart Storage Facility

Published on March 12, 2026

The City of Sioux Falls marked a major milestone today with a ribbon cutting for the new clubhouse and golf cart storage facility at Elmwood Golf Course. The 10,000-square-foot facility serves as the hub of the 27-hole course, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

“The new clubhouse and cart storage facility reflects our commitment to providing first-class recreational amenities for the community,” said Don Kearney, the city’s parks and recreation director. “Elmwood has been a cornerstone for golf in the city for a century and this facility will help ensure it remains a destination for generations to come.”

The new clubhouse features a restaurant, bar and lounge with expanded food and beverage options, a banquet space for gatherings, pro shop and the South Dakota Golf Hall of Fame (SDGHF). Located next to the clubhouse is a new cart storage building, which is sponsored by Heartland Energy, that will store the course’s all-new electric golf cart fleet. First Tee – South Dakota, an organization that offers youth golf programming, will be located adjacent to the cart storage facility in the Denny Sanford Learning Center. The project cost $7.5 million, with $1 million contributed from First Tee and South Dakota Golf Association, which hosts the SDGHF.

Key project highlights include:

Comstock Golf Shop: The Comstock Golf Shop, a modern and expanded pro shop named in honor of the Comstock family’s more than 70 years of service to Elmwood Golf Course and the local golf community, offers panoramic views of all 27 holes and the driving range.

Legends Lounge & Grille: The clubhouse’s new restaurant, bar and lounge offering expanded dining and drink options, including appetizers and entrees perfect for a quick bite before teeing off or a meal to sit down and enjoy following a round.

Covered patio: A 1,300-square-foot covered patio overlooking the 18th green features tables, lounge seating, fans, outdoor TVs and fire pits.

Banquet facility: The banquet room includes amenities and space for meetings and special events like wedding receptions and graduations. The room can accommodate up to 128 people, with the option of expanded space in the Legends Lounge & Grille.

Hall of Fame: The new SDGHF, located in the main entrance of the clubhouse, showcases digital displays of inductees along with memorabilia, photos and trophies.

Golf cart storage facility: The new golf cart storage facility houses 88 carts and includes power‑charging stations and a wash bay, supporting the course’s  back to a fully electric fleet.

“Thank you to our management partner, Landscapes Golf Management, and our project partners and donors who made this next chapter of Elmwood Golf Course possible, including First Tee, South Dakota Golf Association, Heartland Energy and the Comstock Family,” said Tory Miedema, park development specialist for the city. “We look forward to welcoming the community back to enjoy this historic course and its new amenities.”

A three-year renovation project between 2013 and 2015 approved by the Sioux Falls City Council and the Federal Aviation Administration modernized the course with new trees, greens and fairways, a new irrigation system and maintenance facilities and an expanded driving range and practice area. The upgrades improved drainage, playability and the overall golfer experience. The project also added a five-hole par-3 layout, new signage and additional trees to enhance the course’s appearance and function.

Owned by the city and operated in partnership with Sioux Falls Golf and its parent company Landscapes Golf Management, the parkland-style course features 27 holes with lush, tree-lined fairways, meticulously crafted domed greens and classic bunkering. The new clubhouse officially opens to the public Friday, March 13. For more information about Elmwood Golf Course, visit siouxfallsgolf.com.
