New All-Way Stop – 18th Street and Foss Avenue

The intersection of East 18th Street and Foss Avenue has been converted from two-way stop control to all-way stop control. Spinning, reflective conspicuity devices have been added to increase awareness of the new stop signs for northbound and southbound traffic.

Drivers are urged to use caution and reduced speeds while travelling through the intersection as drivers become accustomed to the new traffic pattern.

Sidewalk Closure – Phillips Avenue

The west sidewalk in front of the Holiday Inn on North Phillips Avenue between Sixth Street and Eighth Street was closed at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the east sidewalk, and businesses will remain accessible.

The Holiday Inn will be painting.

This work is anticipated to be completed by the end of the day on August 20, 2026.

Lane Closure – 18th Street

Beginning on Monday, August 17, 2026, the westbound lane of West 18th Street between Kiwanis Avenue and Williams Avenue will be closed to allow the contractor to complete concrete repairs.

The turn lane will remain open during the closure and will accommodate both westbound traffic and left-turn traffic.

Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed in approximately one week.

Lane and Sidewalk Closure – Western Avenue

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026, the northbound outside lane of South Western Avenue will be closed between the south entrance of Scheels and West 42nd Street. The east sidewalk along Western Avenue will be closed. Pedestrians will be detoured to the west sidewalk. 

MidAmerican Energy will be replacing a gas service line.

This work is anticipated to be completed by the end of the day on August 24, 2026.

Street Closure – Weber Avenue

Beginning on Monday, August 17, 2026, North Weber Avenue will be closed at Third Street to allow crews to make railroad crossing improvements as part of the Downtown Whistle Reduction Project. Third Street will also be closed just east of Weber Avenue as part of this work. Traffic should utilize Cliff Avenue as an alternate route.

Work will include upgrades to railroad warning systems, installation of crossing gates and signal equipment, roadway modifications, and median improvements designed to meet federal quiet zone safety requirements.

This project is anticipated to be completed in mid-to-late October 2026.

Street Closure – Finnegan Avenue and Highline Avenue

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday morning, August 17, 2026, the intersection of North Finnegan Avenue and Highline Avenue will be closed. Traffic will be detoured onto Dubuque Avenue and Revere Drive.

Veldco is installing new underground utilities.

This work is anticipated to be completed prior to August 24, 2026.

Street Closure – Broadband Lane

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, August 18, 2026, South Broadband Lane will be closed between 57th Street and Solberg Avenue. 

Precision Dirtworks will be installing new underground utilities.

This work is anticipated to be completed prior to Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Street Closure – Martindale Road

Beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, August 18, 2026, North Martindale Road will be closed between Science Drive and Opportunity Drive. Traffic will be detoured to Westport Avenue.

Lloyd Construction is installing new underground utilities and constructing on-street diagonal parking spaces.

This work is expected to be completed and traffic control removed prior to September 12, 2026.

Street Closures - Blackhawk Street, K Avenue and M Avenue

Beginning on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, West Blackhawk Street will be closed from M Avenue to K Avenue to allow crews to work on sanitary sewer improvements in the Industrial Park area.   K Avenue and M Avenue will also be closed from Blackhawk Street to Cherokee Street as part of this work. 

Weather permitting, work is anticipated to be complete by early October.

Lane Closure – 41st Street

Beginning Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the eastbound lane of East 41st Street at Phillips Avenue will be closed to allow crews to install accessible curb ramps on the south side of the intersection. Eastbound traffic will be moved to the center turn lane to maintain traffic flow.

Once this work is completed, the contractor will move to the north side of the intersection. After the work moves to the north side of the intersection, Phillips Avenue will be closed at 41st Street for the contractor to install a valley gutter and accessible curb ramps.

Motorists should utilize Minnesota Avenue and 37th Street as the detour route.

Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed in approximately two weeks.
