Safe Disposal of Medications
Many local pharmacies have secure drop-off containers for the free disposal of expired, unused, or unwanted prescription medications. Visit SafeDrop-BINfluencer for a list of Sioux Falls area locations.
Additionally, the Sioux Falls Police Department offers a "Drug Take Back" program, allowing residents to dispose of unused or expired medications in a secure, locked container. The disposal container is located in the lobby of the Law Enforcement Center at 320 W 4th St. and is accessible to the public from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday.
When dropping off medications, be sure to leave medications in their original container with the name of the medication clearly visible and black out or remove any personal information from the label.
Please, never flush medications down the toilet or drain
Properly disposing of unused medications through this program helps keep our environment safe!
If you’re unable to drop off your medication, review the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s guidelines for safely disposing of unused or expired medicine.
