  • The southbound I-229 bridge has been removed
  • Pavement removals on 41st Street and Pam Road have been completed
  • Work for the next month will focus on grading, underground utilities, and construction of the new southbound I-229 bridge

Commuter Route Information

Current

  • 41st Street is closed between Carter Place and Cliff Avenue. Access is being maintained for businesses in the area from the west.
  • The southbound I-229 off-ramp and on-ramp are closed to traffic. 

Project Milestones

2025 (Before School Session Ends)

  1. Install traffic control and detours
  2. Shift I-229 southbound traffic to northbound lanes and bridge, and northbound traffic to the temporary diversion and bridge
  3. Remove the existing southbound bridge
  4. Removals on 41st Street
  5. Removals on Pam Road
  6. Close southbound I-229 off-ramp; southbound I-229 on-ramp
  7. Construction of the southbound I-229 bridge abutments, piers, and grading
  8. Construction of the southbound off-ramp and install a pedestrian tunnel
  9. Install sanitary sewer on 41st Street
  10. Install water main on 41st Street
  11. Install storm sewer on 41st Street

2025 (During/After School Summer Break)

  1. Close Cliff Avenue north of the existing northbound I-229 ramps to 38th Street
  2. Close Lincoln High School entrance
  3. Install water main on Cliff Avenue
  4. Install sanitary sewer on Cliff Avenue
  5. Install storm sewer on Cliff Avenue
  6. Construct Lincoln High School entrance and parking lot
  7. Install a permanent traffic signal at 38th Street and Cliff Avenue
  8. Construct portion of Cliff Avenue north of 41st Street
  9. Install a permanent traffic signal at 41st and Cliff Avenue
  10. Southbound I-299 paving
  11. Construct sidewalks
  12. Construct bridge and walls
  13. Construct temporary pedestrian access from the existing sidewalk to the trail under the southbound off-ramp
  14. Remove the temporary bridge (if the weather allows)
  15. Apply winter paving markings on Cliff Avenue

2026

  1. Install traffic control and detours
  2. Shift I-229 traffic to the southbound lanes and bridge
  3. Remove the northbound I-229 bridge and temporary bridge (if still in place)
  4. Construction of northbound I-229
  5. Construction of new northbound I-229 bridge
  6. Restrict Cliff Avenue to one lane in each direction
  7. Install sanitary sewer
  8. Install water main
  9. Install storm sewer
  10. Construct southbound Cliff Avenue
  11. Construct portions of the northbound off-ramp
  12. Closure of the northbound on-ramp to begin construction of the pedestrian tunnel and retaining wall
  13. Shift Cliff Avenue traffic to southbound lanes (one lane in each direction)
  14. Construct northbound Cliff Avenue
  15. Construct the northbound on-ramp and pedestrian tunnel
