This project consists of the preservation of the bridges on North Drive.

  1. The bridge over the BNSF railway will receive a polymer chip seal, minor concrete deck repairs, replacement of the strip seal joints on the approach slabs, special surface finish on the barrier curbs, installation of chain link fence along the pedestrian railing, replacement of sidewalk sections for ADA compliance and tree removal adjacent to the bridge.
  2. The bridge over the diversion channel/spillway will receive a low slump dense concrete overlay, the approach slabs on both ends of the bridge will be removed and replaced, special surface finish on the barrier curbs, install chain link fence along the pedestrian railing, placing new concrete sidewalk adjacent to the bridge and placing a new section of asphalt bike trail to connect to the Sioux Falls bike trail system. 

Commuter Route Information

  • The bridge over the BNSF railway is slated to remain open for the entirety of the project. Traffic will be maintained in both directions at all times.
  • The bridge over the diversion channel/spillway will remain open for the majority of the project.  However, it will be closed during the low slump overlay placement and the replacement of the approach slabs. The duration of the closure is estimated to be approximately one month.  A detour route utilizing N. 4th Avenue, Benson Road, Minnesota Avenue and Russell Street will be in place.  There will be more information regarding the closure as construction progresses.
