Industrial Pretreatment Program

The Water Reclamation Division administers the federal Industrial Pretreatment Program for the City of Sioux Falls.  The service area includes the City and several local communities.

This program was designed by the EPA in 1972 to protect the publicly owned wastewater treatment plants (POTWs), collection systems, and waterways from toxic discharges and other pollutants from commercial businesses and industries.

The Industrial Pretreatment Program works with industries to prevent harmful industrial wastewater discharges at the source.

Who Needs to Apply

Every commercial and industrial user that connects to the city’s sewer system must complete a Wastewater Information Form. This includes industrial or commercial uses, medical, dental, and veterinary facilities.

The City uses the information provided to determine next steps in the process and/or if additional information is needed.
