Water Service Line Inventory

The City of Sioux Falls Water Purification team is taking part in a nationwide effort to identify the materials used in all public and private water service pipes—and we need your help! If you recently received a request to complete the water service pipe survey, please click the button below:

Complete the Survey

This inventory is required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and supported by the South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR). It only takes a few minutes and involves submitting a photo of your water service pipe to help us determine what it’s made of.

Why This Matters

The main goal is to find and remove any remaining lead pipes in our community. Lead is a harmful toxin, and while it was banned in plumbing systems in 1986, some older homes may still have lead pipes.

Sioux Falls has been ahead of the curve—our Water Purification team has worked for decades to remove lead from the public water system and has partnered with homeowners to do the same on private property.

What We’re Looking For

Even if your pipes aren’t made of lead, your input helps us update and verify our records. Whether your pipes are copper, galvanized steel, PVC, or another material, this information helps us ensure safe, reliable water service for everyone.

A Small Step with a Big Impact

Taking a few minutes to document your water service pipe helps protect your family, your neighbors, and the entire Sioux Falls community.
