Overview 

Jacobson Plaza at Falls Park is a major park improvement to Sioux Falls’ namesake park. Jacobson Plaza is situated at the upper falls adjacent to the Levitt Shell and Steel District Development. 

Jacobson Plaza at Falls Park will provide a variety of amenities, including a refrigerated ice skating ribbon, an all-inclusive playground, a warming house with a café, a mechanical building, an open-air shelter, Pawsible Dog Park, T. Denny Sanford Splash Pad, and improved trail connections to downtown destinations and the greater recreation trail network.

Amenities

Jacobson Plaza at Falls Park will provide a variety of amenities, including: 

Refrigerated Ice Ribbon, Warming House and Cafe

The Jacobson Plaza ice ribbon will be a 14,000 square foot sheet of ice that is 20 feet wide and nearly two football fields long. It will be supported by a warming house with skate rentals, food and beverage options, fire pits, music, and lighting. The ice ribbon will be open year-round and is expected to exceed the attendance of the city's other six ice rinks combined.

All-Inclusive Playground 

The all-inclusive playground will be the largest playground in Sioux Falls and will serve as a destination playground for the region. It will be designed to accommodate all children, regardless of their abilities or medical diagnosis. The playground will support users' physical, sensory, and cognitive needs and provide an opportunity for users to acquire new skills while socializing and building self-esteem.

Pawsible Dog Park from the Lloyd Family 

The Pawsible Dog Park is a donation from the Lloyd family. It will be an artificial turf dog park with a sanitizing system, seating, shade, a drinking fountain, and separate spaces for small and large dogs.

T. Denny Sanford Splash Pad 

The T. Denny Sanford Splash Pad will be the largest splash pad in Sioux Falls. It will be located to the south of the ice ribbon and will feature a variety of water play experiences for all age groups.

Funding: 
Jacobson Plaza at Falls Park is being funded through a combination of public and private funds. The Garry and Dianne Jacobson family's donation of $5.5 million served as the major lead gift for the project, with additional donations from T. Denny Sanford, the Lloyd family, and the Downtown Rotary Club. The public-private partnership totals $18.5 M.

Construction
Construction of Jacobson Plaza at Falls Park began in fall 2023 and is expected to be completed in spring 2025. Lloyd Companies is the contractor.
