What are the requirements for this internship?

Role specific requirements are listed in the description for each opportunity. Here’s a guide that applies to many of them: 

  • Post-secondary school as a full-time student at a four-year university, technical college, or in pursuit of a Masters Degree

  • Good academic standing 

  • Willing to commit to the entire summer at 40 hours/week 

  • Ability to travel to and from your work site 

 

Is this internship paid?

What are the dates?

The program will run from approximately June-August, with actual dates established during the hiring process.

What type of work is available?

There’s a role for many interests from public safety and health to culture and recreation to technology and internal operations. Interns will work alongside city employees to partner with the community to plan for neighborhood development, create infrastructure, and provide recreation amenities that keep Sioux Falls consistently ranked among the top places to live and work. What does it mean to be part of a cohort and why is there an emphasis on getting to know the other interns?

Ascend is a multifaceted program where attendees get to know the workings of City Government in addition to role specific work. Cohort gatherings provide time to network with other interns, meet senior officials and get a broader understanding of the positive impact of working in City Government.
