Card Service Fees
Card service fees no longer covered by City starting in 2026.
Effective Jan. 5, 2026, card payments include a card service fee. This fee will be included whenever a credit or debit card is used to pay for services such as:
- Utility bills.
- Filing for a permit or license.
- Using the Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill.
- Parks & Recreation programs and activities.
The fee will be passed directly from the payment processors to the customer. This fee will not exceed the processing cost set by the payment processor. No-fee payment options—cash, ACH bank transfers, and checks—will not be affected by this new policy.
Payment options
No-fee payment options are available for City services and programs. Ask our staff when paying for more information about your options.

Card service fees are non-refundable. This fee covers payment processing costs incurred at the time of your original transaction.
Why the change?
The Sioux Falls City Council approved this policy change in July 2025 to shift card service fees to the customers who choose to use a credit or debit card. These convenience surcharges or service fees will no longer be funded by taxpayers. Most credit and debit card fees are currently paid for by the City.
