Card Payments and Fees

Paying the City by credit or debit card is convenient, and there are a few things worth knowing before you do — including a card service fee, fee-free alternatives, and phone payments.

Paying by card includes a service fee.

When you pay by credit or debit card, a card service fee is added to your transaction. Card processors determine and charge this fee; it is passed directly from the processor to you and will not exceed the processor's actual cost. The City does not profit from it. You'll always see the fee amount before you complete your payment.

You have fee-free options.

A card service fee only applies to card payments. Fee-free options — cash, check, and ACH/eCheck bank transfers — are available for City services. Availability varies by service, so ask our staff about the options for what you're paying.

Card service fees are non-refundable. This fee covers payment processing costs incurred at the time of your original transaction.

Pay online anytime.

Most City services can be paid online through their payment portal. To find the right one for your bill, permit, pass, or fee, visit Register & Pay.

Why these changes?

Ordinance No. 38-25, adopted in July 2025, authorizes the City to pass card service fees to the customers who choose to pay by card, so these costs are no longer funded by all taxpayers.

Phone payments are changing.

Starting July 6, 2026, the City will no longer accept card payments over the phone. This improves payment security by reducing the handling of sensitive card information. If you call to make a payment, staff will direct you to an online option or send you a secure payment link by email. The shift away from phone payments aligns the City with current payment-security standards.
