Pay Tribute, Honor a Memory

Donate a tree, bench, or monetary gift to Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation to honor a loved one.

Memorial Trees

How the tree program works:

The City Forestry Team will purchase and plant the tree. Trees will be one to two inches in caliper and five to six feet tall. Trees cost $800 each and include a memorial tree tag that will be attached to the lower limb. Once the memorial tag falls off it will not be reattached to the tree.

  • Orders received from September through April will be planted in the Spring.
  • Orders received May through August will be planted in the Fall.
  • You can choose between shade, flowering, and evergreen tree(s), or you may request another species for review and approval by our forestry team

Memorial Benches

How the bench program works:

The benches are provided by Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation. Investment in a Memorial Bench is $5,000 each and includes a memorial plaque. Benches can be placed in a Park or along the Recreational Trail. Plaques measure 4” x 7”.

Location Preference

You have the option of requesting that the location of your memorial be placed in a park or on the recreational trail. Or you can entrust our staff to choose an appropriate spot for you. Upon your request, you can also be present for the installation of the tree or bench, or we will be happy to share the final location with you.

(We will consider your requests, but the final tree, bench, or location is at the discretion of the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department)

Monetary Donation

If you wish to simply provide a monetary gift to Parks and Recreation to honor a loved one, the Sioux Falls Parks Foundation Fund will help you do that. The Sioux Falls Parks Foundation is an affiliate of the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation and provides donors with opportunities for strategic investments in community parks.
