Recyclable Recovered materials and products collected separately from the municipal solid waste stream that serve as a substitute for raw materials and are remanufactured into new products after use. These products do not necessarily contain recycled materials and only benefit the environment if people recycle them after use.
Recycled Content Products are made from materials that would have otherwise been discarded. This means these products are made entirely or partly from materials found in the items you recycle, such as aluminum soda cans or newspapers. Recycled-content products can also include items that are rebuilt or remanufactured from used products, like toner cartridges or computers.
Resiliency The ability of a system (such as a community, ecosystem, or economy) to withstand, adapt to, and recover from environmental, social, or economic challenges (like climate change, natural disasters, or resource shortages) while continuing to function and thrive.
Resin Identification Code (RIC) A Resin Identification Code is a number-based system developed by the plastic manufacturing industry, placed on plastics to identify the polymer for recycling purposes. However, it does not necessarily mean that an item is recyclable in a specific community.
Reuse Using a product or component of municipal solid waste more than once in its original form. For example, refilling a returned glass bottle or using a coffee can to hold nuts and bolts.
