Temporary Trail Closures Starting June 20 for Seal Coat Application

Published on June 13, 2024

Sioux Falls, South Dakota: Sections of the Recreation Trail will undergo temporary closures starting Thursday, June 20, 2024. Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation will apply a seal coat to parts of the trail in two zones. The work will cause intermittent closures on the trail. Each section will take about ten days to complete.

  • Zone 1: Starts Thursday, June 20, 2024, and consists of a 4-mile section through Beadle Park on 11th Street to Tuthill Park on Cliff Avenue.

  • Zone 2: Starts Monday, July 1, 2024, and consists of a 2.5-mile section through Sherman Park from 12th Street to 41st Street.

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation encourages trail users to be careful and slow down while traveling near construction areas or consider an alternate route. Signs will be placed along the trail to alert users. Closures will only last four to eight hours while crews are working and will not occur on weekends.

This maintenance work is essential for the long-term enjoyment and safety of the trail. Applying a crack seal coat will extend the trail’s lifespan and improve the overall riding experience.
