Oak View Branch to Temporarily Close for Renovations

Published on July 31, 2025

Siouxland Libraries’ Oak View Branch will temporarily close on Monday, August 18, 2025, as the branch location undergoes renovations. These upgrades will modernize the 20-year-old facility and enhance the guest experience.

The scope of the improvements includes:

  • Renovating the front entrance, including sidewalk and driveway improvements, to address wear and tear from high use and heavy wind loads.
  • Improving restrooms and the entrance experience that aligns with current code requirements.
  • Reorganizing staff areas to create more functional workspaces and improve efficiency.
  • Enlarging the quiet room and adding four new study rooms to meet the high demand of guests.
  • Updating landscaping with more appropriate, lower-maintenance materials.
  • Creating a fenced-in outdoor patio space in the courtyard, funded by a generous $140,000 donation from the Lansky family. This space will allow us to expand programming opportunities, including Birth to 5-year-old programs during the warmer months.

“The renovation of the Oak View Branch is all about enhancing the guest experience. We appreciate everyone’s patience during the temporary closure, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to a refreshed and revitalized library that will truly enrich the lives of our guests,” Director Alysia Boysen said.

To ensure the work is completed as efficiently as possible, the Oak View Branch is anticipated to be closed until late December 2025. During the closure period, Siouxland Libraries guests are encouraged to utilize other Siouxland Libraries branch locations.

Some services will end ahead of the official closure so staff can prepare the space for construction. On Monday, August 11, Oak View’s meeting and study rooms will close to public access, and all scheduled programming at the branch will be suspended. Also, beginning August 11, guests will no longer be able to choose Oak View as their pickup location for holds. Guests who have holds available at Oak View will be able to pick them up until the end of the day on August 17. Any holds that were not picked up at Oak View will be transferred to the Downtown Library for convenient pickup.

On Monday, August 18, Oak View will officially be closed to the public; this includes closing the drive-up and walk-up book drops. Regular Oak View guests will be able to place and pick up holds at any of the other 12 Siouxland Libraries branch locations during the closure.

Renovation work will be actively underway as of Monday, August 18. For progress updates and photos throughout the renovation, please follow Siouxland Libraries on social media at @siouxlandlib. To find the nearest Siouxland Libraries branch to you, visit siouxlandlib.org/all-branch-locations.
