Street Construction Updates & Closures

        Street Closure – Rice Street
Beginning on Monday, September 22, 2025, Rice Street will be closed between Cleveland Avenue and Veterans Parkway to allow crews to mill and overlay the roadway.
Through traffic between Sioux Falls and Brandon should utilize the project detour to 60th Street North via Veterans Parkway and Cliff Avenue. One lane of traffic will be maintained for access to local businesses.
Weather permitting, the overlay work is expected to be completed in approximately three weeks.
Drivers are urged to use caution and reduced speeds while traveling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.
Bridge Closure – North Drive
Beginning on Monday, September 22, 2025, the North Drive bridge over the diversion channel near the State Penitentiary will be closed to allow crews to complete bridge repairs.
Motorists should utilize North Minnesota Avenue, East Benson Road, and North Fourth Avenue as a detour route. The bike route will be detoured utilizing North First Avenue, North Riverside Avenue and the existing recreation trail.
Work is anticipated to be completed in late October.

Lane Closure – 11th Street
Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025, the north outside lane of 11th Street will be closed between Minnesota Avenue and Dakota Avenue. Parking will also be affected in the work area.
ADR of NC, Inc. will be doing utility work. This work is expected to be completed and traffic control removed by the end of the day on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

Lane Closure – 26th Street
Beginning on Monday, September 22, 2025, the outside westbound lane of West 26th Street will be closed between Marion Road and Sioux K Court to allow crews to complete curb and gutter repairs.
In the upcoming weeks, the location of the lane closure will vary between Marion Road and Sertoma Avenue.  At a minimum, one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times. Access to homes and intersecting streets will be maintained.
Work is anticipated to be completed in early November.

Lane Closure – Veterans Parkway
Beginning on Monday, September 22, 2025, the northbound lanes of Veterans Parkway will be reduced to one lane from Madsion Street to Paddington Street to allow the contractor to pave the bike trail. 
Weather permitting, the paving will be completed within one week.
Trail users are urged to avoid this area completely while construction is underway. Drivers are urged to use caution and reduced speeds while traveling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.
Street Closure – Reid Place
Beginning on Monday, September 22, 2025, Reid Place will be closed south of Sixth Street for concrete repairs.
Alternate routes include the Cherapa Parking entrance on Sixth Street or Cherapa Place via Eighth Street.
Weather permitting, work is anticipated to be completed in less than one week.

Sidewalk Repair – Arrowhead Park
Beginning on Monday, September 22, 2025, construction will begin on repairs to the trails at Arrowhead Park. Spot repairs will be made to locations of the existing trail.
The northern parking lot off of East 26th Street will be closed. Portions of the park will be accessible from the southern parking lot between September 22-26. 
Visitors are urged to use caution and avoid locations of the park under construction.
Street Closure – 72nd Street North
Beginning on Thursday, September 25, 2025, 72nd Street North will be closed between North Seubert Avenue and 476th Avenue to allow crews to install watermain, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage improvements. Traffic will be detoured to 258th Street and I-90 via 476th Avenue and SD Highway 115 (Cliff Avenue). Local access to property owners will be maintained throughout construction.
This work is expected to be completed in late November.
