City of Sioux Falls Launches Housing Dashboard

Published on September 24, 2025

The City of Sioux Falls Planning and Development Services Department has announced the launch of a new online Housing Dashboard. This online resource is designed to provide residents, community partners, and City leaders with clear and accessible information on the impacts of the City’s housing programs across the Sioux Falls community.

The Housing Division, a part of Planning and Development Services, administers programs funded by local, state, and federal resources to assist low- to moderate-income residents. These programs include single-family housing rehabilitation, mobile home repair, rental rehabilitation, and neighborhood revitalization initiatives.

“The Housing Dashboard will allow people to see, in a clear and visual way, how and where resources are being invested in neighborhoods across Sioux Falls,” said Logan Penfield, Housing Development Manager.

The dashboard provides information on:

  • Community housing metrics, including population, single- and multi-family housing unit permits, and median home sales prices.

  • Program outcomes, highlighting case management services, rental assistance, subsidized housing units, and rehabilitation services provided annually over the past three years.

  • Interactive mapping tools, which display the locations of City-supported projects to rehabilitate and repair housing. Single-family projects are displayed at the block level to protect personally identifiable information. The map also allows users to overlay neighborhood association boundaries and view projects over the past five years.

Data presented in the dashboard is updated on a recurring basis, and its frequency depends on the metric and source of the information. Median home sales prices are updated monthly with data from the Realtor Association of the Sioux Empire. Vacancy rates are updated twice per year by the South Dakota Multi-Housing Association, and the remaining metrics are provided by the City—annually for the population and programs, and monthly for the building permits.
