The City of Sioux Falls is hosting its 16th annual Paint the Plow event on Saturday, October 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Great Plains Zoo parking lot (805 S. Kiwanis Ave.).

The Paint the Plow program, hosted by the Public Works Street Division, invites young artists in Sioux Falls to decorate the City’s snowplows ahead of the winter season. Plows can be painted by groups like elementary, middle, and high school classes, after-school programs, preschools, daycares, sports teams, and nonprofits. This year, more than 25 groups are painting a plow.

The program culminates in the Paint the Plow event, where the public can view the completed plows and vote for their favorites. The winning plows will be displayed in the Downtown Sioux Falls Inc. Parade of Lights on Friday, November 28. Youth attendees at the Paint the Plow event can sign up for a chance to win a snowplow ride to school.

The event was previously held at the Levitt parking lot downtown. Due to construction from the Levitt’s expansion project, the event will be held at the Great Plains Zoo’s parking lot.

“The Paint the Plow program and event is such a great way to involve the kids of our community and drive awareness to winter season preparedness,” said Dustin Hansen, the City’s Street Operations Manager. “I hear from people all the time how much they enjoy the brightness and fun these painted plows bring to them during the coldest months of the year.”

Students are encouraged to decorate the plows with festive holiday designs; however, the City of Sioux Falls does not censor the content or any viewpoints on the artwork. Any messages or views expressed are not those of the City, nor endorsed by the City.
