City to Host Open House for Kuehn Park Aquatic Center

Published on November 03, 2025

Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation is hosting a Kuehn Park Aquatic Center open house on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Westside Recreation Center (8701 West 32nd Street).

Community members in attendance can view the renderings for the brand-new, state-of-the-art aquatic center at Kuehn Park and learn about the next steps in the project, including when the City plans to break ground and the projected opening date for the new facility. The open house will also include an opportunity for community members to ask questions directly to City staff about the new facility.

“Kuehn Park pool is our only public outdoor aquatic facility west of Interstate 29 and serves a large residential population,” said Mike Patten, the City’s Parks Development Manager. “Our community made it clear that expanding the amount of water and types of experiences at the new facility is very important. We also heard that access to the existing pool was difficult, parking was limited, and there is a desire to keep the current pool in operation during the construction of the new facility.”

These factors, derived from years of public input and planning, guided the master plan for this project and led to the design that moves the aquatic facility from the current pool location to Valley View Road, just north of Oscar Howe Elementary. The new location will provide better access to the pool, improved parking, and allow the current pool to remain open during construction.

Among the new and modern aquatic features at the Kuehn Park Aquatic Center will be a 5,000-square-foot, zero-depth-entry activity pool; a 235-foot-long, 10-foot-wide lazy river; and a 35-foot-high tube slide.

Following the open house, the Parks and Recreation team will plan to bid the project in early 2026, with construction planned for the spring of 2026.
