The City of Sioux Falls will close its two leaf and branch drop-off sites at 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 30.
The two sites are located at North Lyon Boulevard, near the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds, and Chambers Street, near the City’s Household Hazardous Waste Facility. Both sites are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The sites are free for residents to use.
The sites are intended for residential use only, and cars, pickups, full-size SUVs, vans, and trailers are accepted. Lawn service companies and commercial businesses and double -axel trailers will not be accepted and must go directly to the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill.
Leaves and branches must be placed in separate piles, and leaves must be removed from plastic bags. All loads must be tarped or in an enclosed vehicle. Plastic bags, stumps, rubble, and household garbage are not accepted.
Discarded branches are ground and repurposed, while leaves are composted. Residents can pick up compost for free year-round at the landfill and at the seasonal drop-off sites while they are open. Compost is available first come, first served, and residents must collect and carry their own compost.
The City will again provide drop-off sites for real Christmas trees, wreaths, and garland. The sites will open on Friday December 26. Hours of operation will be Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
