Oak View Branch Library to Reopen Dec. 22 After Renovations

After being closed for four months due to extensive renovations, the Oak View Branch Library will reopen Dec. 22, 2025. 

External renovations include an improved front entrance, with repairs to the sidewalk and driveway to enhance safety and accessibility, as well as updated landscaping. Placed in the entrance is a sculpture titled Boy Reading a Book by Eric Thorsen. The sculpture was supported by the Oak View Neighborhood Association. 

Reorganized staff areas designed to create more functional workspaces and improve efficiency for staff and visitors are among the improvements made inside the library. Additionally, four new study rooms have been added to meet high demand. 

“We’re thrilled to welcome the community back to the Oak View Branch,” said Amy Larsen, senior librarian. “These renovations not only enhance the building’s functionality but also reflect our commitment to creating a welcoming and inspiring space for all ages.” 

A generous donation from the Lansky family made possible the creation of a fenced-in outdoor patio space in the courtyard. The new area will allow for expanded programming opportunities, including birth-to-5-year-old programs during the warmer months. 

"Oak View Branch has been a cornerstone of the community since 2005, and these updates ensure it continues to serve our guests well into the future,” said Alysia Boysen, director of Siouxland Libraries. “We’re especially grateful for the support from the Lansky family and the Oak View Neighborhood Association, whose contributions helped bring new life to this space." 

To celebrate its reopening and 20th anniversary, the library will host an open house Wed., Jan. 7, 2026, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Oak View Branch, 3700 E. Third St., Sioux Falls. The event is free and open to the public and will feature oversized games, library tours, scavenger hunts, a photo booth, and more in a celebration of learning and literacy. 

Oak View Branch will resume normal operating hours when it reopens on Mon., Dec. 22. Oak View Branch is open Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
