Sioux Falls, South Dakota: Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation will host a public informational meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 14, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Falls Overlook Cafe, 825 N. Weber Ave., to share details about the Falls Park Master Plan, a roadmap that will guide future development of Falls Park for the next 30 to 50 years.
A short presentation about the plan is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Attendees can also view displays, renderings, and visuals. Community members are encouraged to attend the open house to learn more about the master plan.
“The Falls Park Master Plan is an ambitious vision shaped by community input,” said Mike Patten, the city’s park development manager. “It lays out a clear roadmap to transform Falls Park into a year-round regional destination. Finalizing the plan now feels especially timely, with exciting momentum building around new downtown developments.”
The Falls Park master plan is designed to guide long-term improvements and outlines transformative updates that will take place over the next few decades, aiming to grow Falls Park into a true signature park while preserving its role as a cherished space for the Sioux Falls community.
Key focus areas include traffic circulation and safety in the park, expanding recreational opportunities and year-round programming, improving river water quality, preserving the park’s history and natural beauty, and enhancing the heart of the park.
The Falls Park master plan process began in 2021, building on the success of previous plans that had achieved many of their goals. To help shape the future of the park, Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation launched a design competition seeking comprehensive ideas for The Falls. Confluence Landscape Architecture was ultimately awarded the design contract.
