Tree Removal – Recreation Trail
Published on January 06, 2026
The City of Sioux Falls maintenance crews are performing work adjacent to the Big Sioux River Recreation Trail, approximately one quarter of a mile east of Cliff Avenue north of Tuthill Park.
This work consists of clearing brush, along with ash trees and other end-of-life trees, in preparation for earthwork associated with floodplain improvements. Following the clearing work, material will be excavated to improve the conveyance of river flows during flood events.
Approximately 200 new trees will be planted in the disturbed area after the grading work has been completed.
Recreation trail users should be aware of vehicles operating on and near the trail to haul material away and should stay clear of the work area.
Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed in approximately one month.
