As election season starts, the City of Sioux Falls reminds residents of important voter information, key deadlines and election sign regulations. The municipal election for mayor, at-large city council members A and B, and the central and southeastern council districts will be held Tuesday, June 2, in conjunction with the state’s primary election.
“Voting is one of the most important ways to make your voice heard in our community,” said City Clerk Jermery Washington. “I encourage everyone to register, verify their information, and participate in this year’s elections.”
Minnehaha and Lincoln counties have updated select voting precincts in Sioux Falls ahead of the upcoming municipal election, including two in the central district and two in the southeast district. Residents within those districts are encouraged to verify their voter registration status and polling location by using the Voter Information Portal at https://vip.sdsos.gov/.
Voter registration forms are available at the Office of the City Clerk (235 W. 10th St.), City Hall (224 W. 9th St.), Minnehaha County Administration Building (415 N. Dakota Ave.) and the Lincoln County Auditor’s Office (104 N. Main St., Canton, S.D.). Forms can also be downloaded from the South Dakota Secretary of State website at https://sdsos.gov/elections-voting/, completed, printed and returned to any of these offices.
Absentee voting for the June 2 election begins April 17, and the deadline to register to vote for the June 2 election is May 18.
Additionally, the city has ordinances related to election signage displayed on residential and commercial properties during election season.
“Election sign regulations help keep our neighborhoods safe and visually appealing while allowing residents to express their support for candidates,” said Jason Bieber, a city senior planner. “We encourage everyone to review these guidelines before placing signs.”
To ensure compliance and maintain safety and aesthetics throughout the city, the following guidelines apply to election signs:
- Election yard signs cannot exceed 9 square feet per sign in any residential parcel.
