Street Construction Updates - June 18

Street Closure – 20th Street
Beginning on Thursday, June 18, 2026, West 20th Street will be closed at the west side of the Prairie Avenue intersection to allow crews to install a valley gutter across 20th Street.
Motorists should utilize Walts Avenue to access 20th Street west of Prairie Avenue. Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed in about one week.
Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce speeds while traveling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.
Lane and Sidewalk Closures – Sycamore Avenue
Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026, the outside southbound lane of South Sycamore Avenue will be closed between 23rd Street and 26th Street.
Katzer Concrete will be repairing an approach to Hy-Vee. This work is expected to be completed and traffic control removed by the end of the day on Friday, June 26, 2026.

Utility Work – Linwood Park Area
Beginning on Monday, June 22, 2026, crews will be performing repairs to the sanitary sewer at various locations between North Meyer Lane and North Sycamore Avenue, and between East Sixth Street and East 10th Street. There will be intermittent short term lane restrictions, short term road closures, and driveway access restrictions as the work progresses.
Weather permitting, the repairs are expected to be completed within three weeks.

Lane Closures – Sycamore Avenue – Updated
The work originally scheduled to begin on Monday, June 15, 2026, on South Sycamore Avenue has been rescheduled. Beginning on Monday, June 22, 2026, the southbound lanes of South Sycamore Avenue will be closed from 57th Street to 69th Street to allow crews to begin crack sealing. Once repairs are completed, we will be shifting the lane closures to the northbound lanes of South Sycamore Avenue.
One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times. Access to businesses, homes and side streets will be maintained.
This work is anticipated to be completed in approximately one week.

Lane and Sidewalk Closure – Kiwanis Avenue
Beginning on Tuesday, June 23, 2025, the northbound lane of North Kiwanis Avenue will be reduced to one lane between Eighth Street and Ninth Street to allow crews to perform accessible curb ramp repairs.
The sidewalk on the east side of North Kiwanis Avenue will also be closed during this work. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured around the work zone.
Weather permitting, this work is expected to be completed by the end of the week.

Road & Recreational Trail Closure – Kiwanis Avenue
Beginning on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, South Kiwanis Avenue will be closed between Sheldon Lane and 46th Street to allow crews to make storm drainage repairs. Vehicle traffic will be detoured to Western Avenue.
The recreational trail on the west side of Kiwanis Avenue will also be closed. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to Western Avenue as well.
Weather permitting, the street and recreation trail are anticipated to reopen to traffic in approximately two weeks.

Street Closure – Cynthia Drive
Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, East Cynthia Drive will be closed between Villa Ridge Street and Cattail Drive.
Johnson Dirtworks will be installing new utilities. This work is expected to be completed and traffic control removed by the end of the day on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

Intersection Closure – 20th Street and Ninth Avenue
20th Street Reconstruction Project
Beginning on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, the intersection of 20th Street and Ninth Avenue will be closed to allow crews to continue with the reconstruction of 20th Street through the Avera McKennan Campus. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on 20th Street from Cliff Avenue west and from Seventh Avenue east, both dead ending near Ninth Avenue. Through traffic should utilize 17th Street or 26th Street.
Access Information
- Access to parking ramps along 20th Street will be from Cliff Avenue.
- Access to Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital and Avera Plaza 4 will be from Seventh Avenue.
Emergency Services Access
Emergency responders are advised to access the Avera Emergency Room from Seventh Avenue for the duration of this phase of construction. Motorists are encouraged to utilize 17th Street or 26th Street to access Seventh Avenue.
Pedestrian Access
Pedestrian routes will be signed, and Audible Information Devices (AIDs) will be provided to assist those navigating the detour.
The project is expected to be completed in early November 2026.
