Lane Closure – 26th Street & Marion Road Overlay Project
Beginning on Monday, August 3, 2026, eastbound traffic on West 26th Street will be reduced to one lane between Sertoma Avenue and Marion Road. The lane reduction will allow the City's contractor to complete curb and gutter, valley gutter, and storm inlet apron repairs in advance of the mill and overlay work scheduled for the middle of August.

This project will require multiple traffic changes and lane closures throughout construction.
News releases will be issued prior to each major phase of work. The project is anticipated to be completed in late October 2026.

Street Closures – Blackhawk Street, K Avenue & M Avenue - Revised Start Date
Starting on Monday, August 3, 2026, West Blackhawk Street will be closed from North M Avenue to North K Avenue to allow crews to work on sanitary sewer improvements in the Industrial Park area. North K Avenue and North M Avenue will also be closed from West Blackhawk Street to West Cherokee Street as part of this work.
Weather permitting, work is anticipated to be complete by early October.

Lane Closures – Veterans Parkway
Beginning on Monday, August 3, 2026, motorists can expect multiple lane closures on Veterans Parkway between 57th Street and 18th Street, as well as between Sixth Street and Maple Street to allow crews to install pavement markings for an additional lane of travel. At least one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open at all times.
This work is expected to be completed by the end of the week. As part of this work, the traffic signal heads installed earlier this year will also be placed into operation.
Drivers are urged to use caution, reduce speeds, and be alert for workers and changing traffic patterns while traveling through the construction area. Motorists may also wish to consider alternate routes.
Street Closure – 77th Street
Beginning immediately, East 77th Street will be closed between Santa Rosa Court and Cliff Avenue. Businesses will remain accessible.
Runge is installing new utilities. This work is expected to be completed and traffic control removed by the end of the day on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.

Lane and Sidewalk Closures – Sixth Street
Beginning at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the eastbound lane of East Sixth Street crossing the Big Sioux River will be closed. Traffic will be restricted to one lane and controlled by flaggers. The south sidewalk will be closed. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the north sidewalk.
Pride Neon Signs will be installing a sign. This work is expected to be completed and traffic control removed by 10 a.m.

Street Closure – 20th Street
Beginning on Monday, August 3, 2026, the next phase of this project will begin. Traffic will not be permitted past the 20th Street and Ninth Avenue intersection as construction work begins west of Ninth Avenue. Work on this project includes underground utility improvements, concrete surfacing, sidewalks, and street lighting.
Access Information:
Access to parking ramps will be from Cliff Avenue.
Access to Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital and Avera Plaza 4 will be from Cliff Avenue.
Access to Avera’s loading docks will be from Seventh Avenue.
Emergency Services Access: Emergency responders are advised to access the Avera Emergency Room from Seventh Avenue for the duration of this phase of construction. Motorists are encouraged to utilize 17th Street or 26th Street to access Seventh Avenue.
Pedestrian Access:
Pedestrian routes will be signed, and Audible Information Devices (AIDs) will be provided to assist those navigating the detour.
The project is expected to be completed in early November 2026.

Street Closure – Bull Pine Trail
Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, East Bull Pine Trail will be closed between Six Mile Road and Arrowhead Parkway.
Precision Dirtworks will be hauling soil. This work is expected to be completed and traffic control removed by the end of the day on Monday, August 31, 2026.

57th Street Water Tower to Be Repainted
Beginning on Monday, August 3, 2026, the water tower at 2201 E 57th Street, located near East 57th Street and South Cliff Avenue, will be sandblasted, repaired, and repainted as part of routine maintenance work to extend the life of the tower. This 1,500,000-gallon tower will be shrouded during blasting and painting to help contain any residue created during the work.
The City of Sioux Falls has four water towers that serve as reservoirs of stored water and provide pressure in the water system. The City conducts routine maintenance and inspections of the water towers in order to extend their lifespan.
Work is expected to be substantially completed by the end of October 2026. No significant changes in water pressure or volume to water users are expected during this time.
Intersection Closure – Glendale Avenue & 24th Street
Beginning on Monday, August 3, 2026, the intersection of South Glendale Avenue and West 24th Street will be closed for storm drainage repairs.
Motorists should utilize other neighborhood streets during the closure.
Weather permitting, this intersection is anticipated to reopen in four weeks.

Lane, Parking, & Sidewalk Closure – 18th Street
Beginning on Monday, August 3rd, 2026, the eastbound lane of East 18th Street traffic will be closed at the intersection of Fourth Avenue to allow for valley gutter work. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to 19th Street at Third Avenue.
Also, parking along the south side of East 18th Street near the intersections of First, Second, Third, and Fourth Avenue will be closed to allow crews to perform accessible curb ramp repairs.
The sidewalk on the south side of 18th Street will also be closed during this work. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured around the work zone.
Weather permitting, this work is expected to be completed in approximately two weeks.

Street Closure – Eighth Avenue & Ninth Avenue
Beginning on Monday, August 3, 2026, South Eighth Avenue, South Ninth Avenue, and the alley between Eighth Avenue and Ninth Avenue will be closed at 26th Street to allow crews to install accessible curb ramps. The westbound lane of East 26th Street will be closed from Tenth Avenue to Seventh Avenue and westbound traffic will be shifted to the center lane. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on East 26th Street.
Motorists should utilize East 24th Street to enter and exit the neighborhood.
Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed in approximately one week.

Lane Restriction – Maple Street
Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2026, the eastbound lane of West Maple Street will be shifted to the center left turn lane east of Eagles Nest Avenue. One lane of traffic will be allowed in each direction.
MidAmerican Energy will be doing utility work and patching the road. This work is expected to be completed by the end of the day on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Harmodon Park – Trail Construction
Beginning on Monday, August 3, 2026, construction activities will begin on the south side of Harmodon Park to allow the contractor to install additional internal trail. Traffic control and construction fencing have already been put in place.
The park will remain open during this time.
Weather permitting, this work is anticipated to be completed by early September.
Park users are urged to use caution while near the construction area.
Utility Work – Linwood Park Area
Beginning on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, crews will be performing repairs to the sanitary sewer at various locations between North Meyer Lane and North Sycamore Avenue, and between East Sixth Street and East Tenth Street. There will be intermittent short-term lane restrictions, short-term road closures, and driveway access restrictions as the work progresses.
Weather permitting, the repairs are expected to be completed within three weeks.

Street Closure – Brookings Street
Beginning on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, West Brookings Street will be closed to through traffic between Walts Avenue and Menlo Avenue to allow crews to make storm drainage repairs.
Motorists should utilize other neighborhood streets during the closure.
Weather permitting, the road is anticipated to reopen in approximately six weeks.

Street and Sidewalk Closure – Career Avenue
Beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, North Career Avenue will be closed beginning at Terry Avenue and ending north of the HUB at Southeast Technical College. The west sidewalk along North Career Avenue adjacent to the HUB will be closed.
Backhaus Construction will be working on utility tie-ins. This work is expected to be completed and traffic control removed by the end of the day on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
