Siouxland Libraries will offer a five-week Family Place: Parent and Child Workshop beginning Sept. 3 for parents and caregivers with children ages 1 to 3.
The program combines play-based activities for children with opportunities for adults to learn about early childhood development and connect with community professionals. During each session, children can explore toys and books while parents and caregivers meet with a community professional and learn about topics related to early childhood and parenting.
“These workshops give parents and caregivers a chance to learn about their child’s development while their children explore, play, and make new friends,” said Neliesha Daws, supervising librarian for Siouxland Libraries. “We hope families leave each session with helpful information, new connections and ideas they can use at home.”
Community professionals will lead discussions on topics including:
- Siouxland Libraries: Early literacy
- Avera Family Life: Emotional learning
- Toy Lending Library: The importance of play
- Children’s Home Society: Parenting resources
- Sioux Falls Fire Rescue: Car seat safety
The workshops provide parents and caregivers with information and resources to support their children’s development and connect with other families. The program is part of Siouxland Libraries’ designation as a certified Family Place Library and supports the library’s efforts to build early literacy skills and connect families with community resources.
The workshops will take place at 10 a.m. Sept. 3, 10, 17, and 24, and Oct. 1 at the Oak View Branch, 3700 E. 3rd St., Sioux Falls.
