Lane Closures – Bridge Inspections

Beginning Wednesday, September 9, 2026, two bridges in the Sioux Falls area are scheduled for regularly scheduled biennial inspections. This work will entail lane closures to allow crews to perform inspections & bridge deck delamination surveys. Traffic will be maintained through the work zone.

Weather permitting, the work schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, September 9, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

  • The southernmost lane of the Tenth Street Bridge downtown, over the BNSF Railroad switchyard, will be closed.

Thursday, September 10, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

  • There will be various lane closures on the Veterans Parkway bridge over the BNSF Railroad and Big Sioux River.

Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce speeds while traveling near the work zone and may want to consider alternate routes.

 

Lane and Sidewalk Closure – East 14th Street

Beginning on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 8:30 a.m., the outside eastbound lane of East 14th Street will be closed between South Phillips Avenue and South First Avenue.  The south sidewalk will be closed along the same area. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the north sidewalk.

Dave’s Construction will be performing utility work in the area.

The work is expected to be completed and traffic control removed from the street by the end of the day on September 11, 2026.  The sidewalk will remain closed until September 18, 2026

Sidewalk Closure – South Phillips Avenue

Beginning at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the east sidewalk on South Phillips Avenue between Tenth Street and Eleventh Street will be closed in front of the Shriver Building.  Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the west sidewalk, and businesses will remain accessible.

Cresten Construction will be replacing the sidewalk.

This work is expected to be completed and traffic control removed by the end of the day on September 12, 2026.

Lane Closure – Minnesota Avenue

Beginning on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the inside northbound lane of South Minnesota Avenue between West 69th Street and St Andrews Drive will be closed to allow the contractor to complete concrete repairs.

The repairs are anticipated to be finished in one week, weather permitting.

Drivers are urged to use caution and reduced speeds while travelling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.

 

476th Avenue Open at 72nd Street North

476th Avenue (Minnehaha County Highway 125) reopened to traffic from I-90 to Slip Up Creek Road on Friday, September 4, 2026.

72nd Street North will remain closed from Seubert Avenue to 476th Avenue until early October to allow crews to finish installing sanitary sewer and storm drainage piping, and to grade and pave the road.  

Motorists are urged to use caution and reduce speeds while traveling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.

 

Extended Road Closure – East 6th Street

Beginning on Wednesday, September 9, the outside eastbound lane of East 6th Street will be closed at Meyer Lane between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily to allow crews to perform paving operations on Meyer Lane. This work is expected to continue through Thursday, September 10.
