Lane Closures – Bridge Inspections
Beginning Tuesday, September 29, 2026, several bridges in the Sioux Falls area are scheduled for regularly scheduled biennial inspections. This work will require lane closures to allow crews to perform inspections & bridge deck delamination surveys. Traffic will be maintained through the work zone.
Weather permitting, the work schedule is as follows:
Tuesday 9/29
· AM – 60th Street N. west of Minnesota Avenue over the Big Sioux River. One lane of the bridge will be closed at a time with traffic signals controlling traffic.
· PM – 60th Street N., west of Minnesota Avenue over Silver Creek. One lane of the bridge will be closed at a time with traffic signals controlling traffic.
Wednesday 9/30
· AM – Minnesota Avenue south of 60th Street North. Both lanes will remain open with a lane shift to allow for inspection.
· PM – Benson Road east of Minnesota Avenue. Lane closures will vary throughout the afternoon to allow inspection on both sides of the structure and deck delamination survey in the middle of the structure.
Thursday 10/1
· AM – 41st Street by O’Gorman High School. Deck delamination survey only; lane closures will vary throughout the morning.
· PM – Veterans Parkway over 85th Street. Deck delamination survey only; lane closures will vary throughout the afternoon.
Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce speeds while traveling near the work zone and may want to consider alternate routes.
Street and Sidewalk Closure – South Norton Avenue
Beginning on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. South Norton Avenue will be closed between West 21st Street and West 22nd Street. The west sidewalk along Norton Avenue will also be closed.
First Rate Excavate will be performing utility repairs in this area.
The work is expected to be completed and traffic control removed by the end of the day on October 5, 2026.
Drivers are urged to use caution and reduced speeds while travelling near the construction area and may want to consider alternate routes.
Overnight Closure – 26th Street & Marion Road Intersection Overlay Project
Beginning Monday, September 28, 2026, the intersection of 26th Street and Marion Road will be closed from 9 pm to 6 am to allow crews to complete the remainder of the concrete repairs in the center of the intersection. The intersection is expected to reopen to traffic by 6 am Tuesday morning. Motorists should utilize alternate routes during the closure.
The overall project is anticipated to be completed in late October 2026.
