More than 20 youth groups will have their painted plows on display during the City of Sioux Falls’ 17th annual Paint the Plow event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 17, in the south parking lot at Levitt at the Falls, 100 E. Sixth St. The event is free and open to the public.
Hosted by the Public Works Department’s Street Division, the event gives young artists an opportunity to paint snowplows ahead of the winter season. This year’s theme is “Snow Much Fun in Sioux Falls.”
“Paint the Plow brings creativity and community spirit to an important part of our winter operations,” said Dustin Hansen, the city’s street operations manager. “Seeing these designs on the streets is a fun reminder that our crews are preparing to keep Sioux Falls moving safely throughout the winter.”
Participating youth groups include elementary, middle and high school classes; after-school programs; preschools; day care providers; sports teams; and nonprofit organizations.
The public may view the painted plows and vote for their favorite designs during the event. Winning plows will appear in Downtown Sioux Falls Inc.’s Parade of Lights on Friday, Nov. 27.
Youth who attend the event may also enter for a chance to win a snowplow ride to school.
Students are encouraged to create festive winter designs. The city does not censor artwork or viewpoints displayed on the plows. Messages and views shown on the plows do not represent or imply city endorsement.
