The City of Sioux Falls uses a single-stream recycling system, meaning all recyclables are collected together in one bin or dumpster. All garbage haulers are required to provide a recycle bin or dumpster at each residential property within Sioux Falls.
Remember, don't trash your recycling: 75% of landfill waste is recyclable.
Household Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling
Household Hazardous Waste (paint, chemicals, etc.) and Electronics (computers, batteries, etc.) should not be placed in your regular trash or recycling. Residents may drop off these materials for free at the Sioux Falls Household Hazardous Waste Facility.
Appliance, Tire, Mattress & Scrap Metal Recycling
Appliances, scrap metal, mattresses, and tires may be taken to the Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill for recycling. Items accepted for recycling at the Landfill include:
- Appliances: Refrigerators, freezers, stoves, dishwashers, washers, dryers, water heaters & water softeners
- Scrap metal*
- Tires
- Mattresses & box springs
- Small yard equipment: Mowers, trimmers & snow blowers

Recycling Yard Waste
Yard waste should not be mixed in with your regular trash. Contact your waste hauler about curbside collection services for yard waste. Yard waste set out in plastic bags can’t be collected.
Yard waste can also be taken to the Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill for recycling. Remember to separate leaves & grass clippings from branches and logs. No plastic bags, please. Leaves & grass clippings will be composted, while branches & logs will be chopped up to make mulch. Wooden pallets are also accepted with branches & logs.
The City of Sioux Falls also offers Seasonal Leaf & Branch Drop Off sites in the fall and spring. These drop off sites are free for residents to use.
