In 2025, the Sioux Falls City Council and Parks Board adopted the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which provides Sioux Falls's vision for the growth of parks, paths and trails, open space and recreation facilities over the next five years and beyond.
How the Plan Gathered Information
This plan was developed with involvement from the community. Through outreach and stakeholder engagement, the department provided multiple ways for residents to offer input and feedback throughout the planning process. Over 1,500 community members participated by sharing their thoughts through a statistically valid survey, a website survey, focus groups, and stakeholder meetings. The plan also utilized demographic data and trends, analyzed the Department’s programs, maintenance and operations, and assessed service levels to formulate its recommendations.
