Special One-Day Alcoholic Beverage License

Eligible civic, charitable, educational, fraternal, and veteran’s organizations - and certain current license holders - may apply for special one-day alcoholic beverage licenses for events. No more than 15 consecutive days may be requested (SDCL 35-4-124 and Ordinance 111.022).

Application Process

Applications must be submitted online through the Customer Self Service (CSS) portal. Payment is required before the application can be submitted.

License Types and Fees

One-Day Liquor License (malt beverages, wines, liquors)
$100 per day; $50 for each additional consecutive day; $10 publication fee
Current Full-Service Restaurant On-Sale or Retail Liquor license holders may apply and are exempt from publication fees.

One-Day Malt Beverage License (malt-based beverages)
$25 per day; $10 publication fee
Current Full-Service Restaurant On-Sale, Retail Liquor, or Retail Malt Beverage license holders may apply and are exempt from publication fees.

One-Day Wine License (wines)
$25 per day; $10 publication fee
Current Full-Service Restaurant On-Sale, Retail Liquor, Retail Wine, or Farm Winery license holders may apply and are exempt from publication fees.

One-Day Package (Off-Sale) Wine License (bottled wine)
$50 per day; $10 publication fee
Current Package Liquor, Retail Wine, or Farm Winery license holders may apply and are exempt from publication fees.

You will incur a card service fee if you pay with a credit or debit card.

Approval Timeline

For organizations, the approval timeline is approximately four to six weeks from when the application is received due to publication requirements before the hearing date (SDCL 35‑2-5). After City Council approval, the license will be emailed to you the following day.

For current licensees, the approval timeline is approximately two to four weeks from when the application is received because there is no publication requirement.
