Siouxland Libraries has selected True Biz by Sara Nović as the 2026 One Book Siouxland title. Each year, One Book Siouxland brings together readers across Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County for community-wide discussions, events and activities centered on a single book.

True Biz is a captivating and insightful novel set at the River Valley School for the Deaf. The story follows three interconnected lives: Charlie, a rebellious hearing teenager newly immersed in the world of American Sign Language (ASL); Austin, a student whose family legacy ties him deeply to Deaf culture; and February, the school's fierce headmistress, fighting to keep the institution afloat.

As political tensions rise, their lives collide, forcing them to confront complex issues of language, identity and communication. Sara Nović offers a powerful look at the resilience and beauty of Deaf culture, the fight against marginalization, and the universal search for one's "true biz" -- the authentic truth.

“This year’s selection invites readers to explore a rich and often underrepresented culture through a compelling and emotional story,” said Alysia Boysen, Director of Siouxland Libraries. “We’re excited to spark meaningful conversations and connect our community through this shared reading experience.”

The community can look forward to thoughtful conversations during activities and throughout the month of April at various branch locations.

“Since 2018, One Book Siouxland has encouraged reading and dialogue through community-wide reading and discussion across our 13 libraries in Sioux Falls and Minnehaha County,” said Kim Koblank, One Book Siouxland Coordinator. “True Biz is a fantastic selection, and I look forward to our community diving into this book together.”
