Seasonal Leaf and Branch Drop Sites
Fall 2025 Drop Sites:
The Fall Leaf and Branch Drop Sites are open now through Sunday, November 30, 2025 (Closed Thanksgiving Day). Both sites are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Continue reading for program details.
These drop sites are free for residents to use and are available to residents living in Sioux Falls and the five-county region served by the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill, including Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, and Turner counties.
The drop sites are for residential use only. Leaves and branches from cars, pickups, full-size SUVs, vans, and trailers will be accepted. However, materials from lawn service companies and commercial businesses will NOT be accepted at the drop sites and instead should go directly to the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill.
Discarded branches are ground and repurposed, while leaves are composted. Residents can pick up compost for free year-round at the landfill and at the seasonal drop sites while they are open. Compost is available first-come, first-served basis, and residents must collect and carry their own compost.
What to Know Before You Go
- Leaves and branches must be placed in separate piles.
- Leaves must be removed from plastic bags. Paper bags are accepted.
- All loads must be tarped or in an enclosed vehicle.
- Plastic bags, tree stumps, rubble, and household garbage are NOT accepted.
The Sioux Falls Regional Landfill provides these free drop sites for residents to discard leaf and branch yard waste. The drop sites are offered in the spring and fall and are typically open for several weeks at a time. The opening of one or both sites is dependent upon site availability and operational support. This page will be updated seasonally as site(s) open and close.
